Buying Fine Jewelry, Compared
| Dimension | Solifacet | StockX |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Marketplace for fine jewelry and precious stones; holds no inventory and sells nothing of its own. | Stock-market-style marketplace for deadstock (brand new, unworn) luxury and collectible items. |
| Jewelry-specific focus | Exclusively dedicated to fine jewelry and precious stones. | Multi-category platform focused on sneakers, streetwear, and collectibles, with a curated selection of brand-new luxury and designer jewelry. |
| Seller vetting | Sellers are vetted by Solifacet before they are approved to list pieces. | Open seller registration; anyone can list eligible standardized products, with seller performance tracked through seller levels. |
| What gets checked before the piece lists | The founder personally inspects each piece in person to confirm it exists, matches its description, and is in the stated condition, and checks any certificates or paperwork. (Small accent stones and melee diamonds are not individually lab-inspected). | Pieces are not inspected before listing; after a sale occurs, the seller ships the item to a StockX verification center for multi-point physical authentication before delivery. |
| Buyer protection / what happens if something is wrong | Founder-led resolution handled personally case by case, including covering costs out of pocket when warranted, backed by confirmed written purchase terms. | StockX Buyer Promise covers items that fail verification, arrive damaged, or are not authentic, issuing a refund or replacement before release to the buyer. |
| Returns | 3-day inspection window from delivery for approved claims (counterfeit or materially not-as-described, with valid proof). No change-of-mind returns. | All sales are final; change-of-mind returns are not accepted, with limited exceptions where required by law (such as statutory EU/UK withdrawal rights). |
| Certificates / provenance | Certificates and supporting documentation are checked by the founder when applicable before listing. | Requires original manufacturer packaging, tags, and any included gemological or authenticity cards in pristine condition. |
| Human support | Customer service is handled directly and personally by the founder, not a ticket queue or outsourced support team. | Handled through automated online help center workflows, live chatbot, and email support ticketing. |
| Shipping & insurance | Sellers ship within 48 hours of sale. Shipments are insured through the carrier, with tracking; shipping is paid by the buyer and included in the piece's price. | Sellers ship using prepaid tracked carrier labels to StockX verification centers; StockX inspects and forwards the order to the buyer. |
| Price transparency | The price you see is the price you pay, with no added buyer fees or hidden checkout surcharges. | Live bid/ask pricing model; buyer processing fees (approx. 3-4%), shipping costs, and applicable taxes are calculated and added at checkout. |
How verification works at Solifacet
Before a piece lists, the founder personally goes to the seller, inspects the piece in person — it exists, it matches its description, its condition is as stated — and checks the certification/papers that come with it.
What we do NOT do (yet), stated plainly: melee diamonds and small accent stones are not individually lab-inspected. Inspecting each one costs more than the margin on the piece, so the industry standard is not to verify those individually. We do not claim otherwise anywhere.
If a piece turns out not to be as described, Solifacet handles it personally, case by case, and makes it right — including covering costs out of pocket when the situation warrants it. Customer service is founder-led, not a ticket queue.
What we're building (label this clearly as PLANNED, not current): a verification partner facility that will inspect every piece before it ships. Do NOT present this as already in place.
Where Solifacet differs
StockX pioneered the bid/ask exchange model for luxury streetwear and accessories, enforcing a strict standard that every item must be brand new and routing every sold piece through physical authentication centers. However, StockX is designed around standardized retail merchandise, does not support one-of-a-kind vintage or estate pieces, adds buyer processing fees at checkout, and treats all sales as final with no return privileges. Solifacet differs by offering curated estate, antique, and contemporary fine jewelry from vetted independent sellers, where the founder personally inspects each piece in person before it lists, pricing is all-inclusive with no added buyer fees, and claims are handled personally by the founder.
Questions & Answers
Solifacet vs StockX — what's the difference?
StockX is a bid/ask platform for brand-new, standardized luxury items that are physically authenticated after a sale takes place, with all sales final. Solifacet is a curated fine jewelry marketplace for independent pieces where the founder personally inspects each piece in person before listing, with direct founder service.
What does 'verified' mean on Solifacet?
On Solifacet, verified means the founder has traveled to the seller, personally inspected the physical piece to ensure it exists, matches its description, and reflects its stated condition, and reviewed its accompanying certificates or documentation. It does not mean every melee diamond or tiny accent stone has undergone independent lab analysis, as those stones are not individually tested.
What is Solifacet's return policy?
Solifacet provides a 3-day inspection window following delivery for approved claims involving counterfeit items or material misrepresentation, supported by valid proof. Change-of-mind returns are not accepted, as purchase terms are confirmed in writing prior to payment.
Can you return jewelry purchased on StockX?
StockX enforces an all-sales-final policy on jewelry purchases. If an item arrives damaged or materially fails verification standards, buyers must report it within 3 days under the StockX Buyer Promise.
